This is a subsection of the Graduate Employment Survey blog post. The full blog post can be found here.
Introduction #
In this subsection, we will analyze the Graduate Employment Survey (GES) 2023 report for the National University of Singapore (NUS). We will explore the employment outcomes of NUS graduates, including their employment rates, starting salaries, and job roles. We will identify any trends or insights that emerge from the data and compare the results with previous years.
We will go through the overall statistics before doing a deeper dive on each of the faculty. Due to the large number of faculties, we will be exploring the different trends based on each of the different faculties.

Faculty of Dentistry #
This faculty only consists of Bachelor of Dental Surgery graduates.
Gross Monthly Salary (SGD) #
The gross monthly salary for dentistry graduates has been consistently high over the past 5 years, with an average salary of $4589 in 2023. For most of the years, the 25th percentile and median salary has been the same, indicating that the 25th percentile to the median is earning the same amount. Employment Rate % #
The employment rate of dentistry graduates has been consistently high at 100% for the past 5 years.
Faculty of Law #
The faculty of law only consists of Bachelor of Laws graduates.s
Gross Monthly Salary (SGD) #
For the faculty of Law, the data for 2023 is very interesting. The average salary is higher than the 75th percentile, indicating that there are a few graduates (> 25%) earning a very high salary and skewing the average upwards.
To take into account how absurd this is, let us do some napkin math.
Let us make some assumptions to calculate the minimum average salary of the top 25% of graduates.
- 0th to 25th percentile: Earns 25th percentile pay (6000)
- 25th to 50th percentile: Earns median pay (7000)
- 50th to 75th percentile: Earns 75th percentile pay (7100)
Based on their FAQ, the faculty of law has about 250 graduates per year.
Using these numbers, we can do some calculations.
$$ Graduates = 250 $$ $$ TotalSalary = 7244 * 250 = 1811000$$ $$ 0-25th = 6000 * 250 * 0.25 = 375000 $$ $$ 25th-50th = 7000 * 250 * 0.25 = 437500 $$ $$ 50th-75th = 7100 * 250 * 0.25 = 443750 $$ $$ 75th-100th = 1811000 - 375000 - 437500 - 443750 = 554750 $$ $$ Avg of 75th-100th = 554750 / (250 * 0.25) = 8876 $$
The average salary of the top 25% of graduates is $8876, which is significantly higher than the median salary of $7000. This is also the minimum possible average.
On the opposite end, if we make an opposite assumption,
- 0th to 25th percentile: Earns 0
- 25th to 50th percentile: Earns 25th percentile pay (6000)
- 50th to 75th percentile: Earns median pay (7000)
$$ Graduates = 250 $$ $$ TotalSalary = 7244 * 250 = 1811000$$ $$ 0-25th = 0 * 250 * 0.25 = 375000 $$ $$ 25th-50th = 6000 * 250 * 0.25 = 375000 $$ $$ 50th-75th = 7000 * 250 * 0.25 = 437500 $$ $$ 75th-100th = 1811000 - 375000 - 437500 = 998500 $$ $$ Avg of 75th-100th = 998500 / (250 * 0.25) = 15976 $$
Overall, the average salary of the top 25% (excluding the 75th percentile) of graduates ranges from $8876 to $15976, which is wildly different from the 75th percentile salary of $7100.
